Bestfeeding: How to Breastfeed Your Baby

This is often reviewed in the baby catalogues as one of the most helpful books written on breastfeeding, and they're not wrong. If you don't get or read any other book on breastfeeding, make sure you read this one. It is very easy to follow, there are excellent photos and illustrations, and the section on the "myths" is very enlightening. Altogether an excellent read.

Ultimate Breastfeeding Book of Answers

This is an excellent softback book, published with different titles for the US and International markets. It's over 400 pages in length and very useful for any breastfeeding mum who wants to know more about the topic as it is written in no-nonsense English (or Canadian, to be specific!) and as such is very mother-friendly. It contains up-to-date information and advice on just about every situation that might be encountered in breastfeeding management, and deals beautifully with many of the myths that surround different breastfeeding problems at the same time.

The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding (La Leche League International Book)

This is an American book, anecdotal in many places, and an enjoyable read. Published by La Leche League, there is some very useful information on a wide range of topics relating to all aspects of breastfeeding, and it is nice to pick up and read when you have the odd moment to spare. Regarded by many as THE "original book on breastfeeding".

Breastfeeding with Confidence: A Do-it-yourself Guide

This is an expanded and revised version of "Breastfeeding: I Can Do That", described by the author as a "Do It Yourself" guide. It's written in an easy, mother-friendly style which is very appealing, and contains lots of solid information on forming a positive breastfeeding experience.

So That's What They're For!: Breastfeeding Basics

Another American publication, but again, a wonderful read. Ms. Tamaro writes with great wit, but great sincerity, in a way that cannot fail to appeal. She treats her subject seriously, but manages to inject an infectious sense of humour into every chapter, even the introduction, where she tells us that we're about to meet the one person in our lives who'll love our breasts no matter what they're like: our new baby! It provides good, sound, solid breastfeeding information when it's needed, and a damned good laugh when that is equally good medicine!

Breastfeeding ("Practical Parenting" Problem Solvers)

This is a good beginner's guide to breastfeeding, written by a former ABM breastfeeding counsellor. It covers the basics and is easy to read. Recommended if you want to buy a slimmer and slightly cheaper book.

Mothering Your Nursing Toddler

By its title, it is obvious that this is aimed more at the mother who wishes to breastfeed on a long-term basis. When you do this, it is sometimes difficult to ignore the remarks and direct criticisms that seem to come from all quarters - "You're not STILL breastfeeding, are you?" This book provides encouragement and support, along with practical suggestions.

How Weaning Happens

This book discusses the reasons for, and methods of, weaning your baby from the breast at various ages. It is full of practical tips and mothers' stories. This is one of the few books that explains how to go about drawing your breastfeeding relationship to a close.

Breastfeeding Your Premature Baby

This is a lovely book, aimed of course at the parents of premature babies. There is a lot of very useful information on the difficulties surrounding premature babies, but the author manages to "de-mystify" the process of breastfeeding a premature baby very successfully, while presenting the strong case for the importance of giving breastmilk to the baby who arrived sooner than expected.
